History

The Gulfstream G550 entered service in 2003 and became a benchmark ultra-long-range jet, trusted by corporations and governments worldwide. It offered the range to link distant cities nonstop with a large, quiet cabin. Produced for nearly two decades, it cemented Gulfstream’s reputation at the top of the market.

The first production G550 flew in July 2002 and the aircraft earned FAA certification in August 2003, entering service as the longest range business jet then available. Power comes from two Rolls-Royce BR710 turbofans, and the flight deck uses the Gulfstream PlaneView suite with a head-up display and an Enhanced Vision System that proved valuable on oceanic and polar routes.

The cabin stands a full 6 feet 2 inches tall and can be arranged in up to four distinct living areas, seating around 14 to 16 passengers in typical layouts and up to 19. Production ran until June 2021 with more than 600 built, and the G550 remains one of the most widely operated large-cabin Gulfstreams in service.
