The entry point to jet travel: jet speed and small-airport access, ideal for short hops with one or two passengers.
Very light jets such as the Embraer Phenom 100, Cessna Citation Mustang and HondaJet typically seat four. They are a two to two-and-a-half hour aircraft, and under two hours is where they shine. Two normal-size passengers is the ideal load; the cabin is comfortable for a short hop but tight beyond it.
At about four feet nine inches high you cannot stand, the lavatory is small and often curtained, and there is no real galley. For a quick point-to-point with light luggage they are excellent value, and the wrong choice for anything long.
Popular routes a very light jet flies comfortably with a full cabin and luggage aboard, not the lightly-loaded figure quoted online.
Beyond about two hours, or with the cabin full, a light jet is the more comfortable step up.
