What it can really do

Heavy jets such as the Gulfstream IV and G450, the Dassault Falcon 2000 and Falcon 900, the Bombardier Challenger 604 and the Embraer Legacy 600 seat around twelve to thirteen and are built for six to eight hour flights. A full standing cabin, a separate galley and lavatory, and room to rest make the long leg genuinely comfortable.

On longer distances, weight is what to watch. The more passengers and luggage you load, the more fuel the aircraft needs, which is where payload, achievable range and the required runway length all start to come into play. It is the main reason a heavy jet that comfortably does one route may need a lighter cabin or a fuel stop on another.

Common routes

Popular routes a heavy jet flies comfortably with a full cabin and luggage aboard, not the lightly-loaded figure quoted online.

  • Dubai – London
  • London – New York
  • New York – Los Angeles
  • Miami – London
  • Dubai – Singapore
  • Dubai – Johannesburg

On the longest, a full cabin and its luggage can mean a fuel stop: Los Angeles to London, Dubai to Tokyo.
